Designer Susan Begg and Nicola Semple, the duo behind landscape design studio Semple Begg, are celebrating their 10th anniversary with the relocation of their award-winning RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden.
The ‘Teapot Trust’s Elsewhere Garden’, which won gold at RHS Chelsea in 2023, has now been relocated to its new home within the grounds of the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow.
The garden, supported by Project Giving Back, is designed to capture the imagining of a child’s mind set free from the effects of chronic illness, now repurposed as a place of calm inspiration for young patients and their families.
Its vivid planting scheme took inspiration from children’s books and films – Wona, Oz and Wonderland – exaggerated in shape and form to create a fantasy theme.
Hattie Ghaui, CEO of Project Giving Back, which also partly funded the gardens relocation to Glasgow, says:
“We know the Teapot Trust Elsewhere Garden at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow will provide a colourful and joyful space for children, their families and the incredible staff who care for them to enjoy for many years to come.”
In addition to their garden relocation, Susan Begg and Nicola Semple of Semple Begg, have also just returned from completing the planting design for the Dior Cruise 2025 Show at Drummond Castle in the heart of Perthshire.
The planting design for the Cruise show involved the temporary planting of near;y 10,000 plants within the Listed gardens and grounds.
Semple reflects on the pairs 10 year anniversary, saying:
“We are like quiet subconscious voices in the back of each other’s head guiding and encouraging each other to do better work, be adventurous, take calculated risks and keep trying new things. We now work comfortably across international borders in both French and English and we’re looking forward to the next 10 years, to taking on bigger projects in the UK, Switzerland and beyond.”
