Suffolk-based nursery Rymer Trees has announced that it has “ambitious growth plans” for the year ahead.

Founded just three years ago, the peat-free grower sees its third year of operation as a chance to expand.

In December, the Plant Healthy certified nursery began sowing more than 30 tree and hedging species. It is aiming to produce around 300,000 trees to be available for sale in the 2024/25 planting season, having doubled its tree production capacity last year by adding a second double-span poly-tunnel and investing in machinery.

There are also plans to add to its string of industry standard certifications, which include holding FRM registration and UKISG certification as assured by the Woodland Trust, and to continue its research into alternatives to peat.

Rymer Trees’ focus is on cell grown, peat-free tree cultivation, with an emphasis on building “Innovation within the peat-free sector,” says one of its four founders, Harry Hoblyn, a winner of Pro Landscaper’s 30 Under 30: The Next Generation 2023.

“We are dedicated to producing high-quality trees with excellent establishment rates, whilst minimising our environmental footprint. Our focus on sustainability is reflected in every aspect of our operations, from rainwater harvesting to maximising our waste reduction efforts.”

Rymer Trees was established in Barnham in 2021 and is led by nursery manager Hoblyn, arboricultural consultant Rory Hobbs, farmer Toby Rush and landscape garden designer Tom Hoblyn.
