A public consultation has been launched for the regeneration project planned for Shrewbury town centre.
Led by the local council and RivingtonHark, The Smithfield Riverside project aims to redevelop the area between the River Severn, Darwin Centre, Roushill and Raven Meadows.
The masterplan, designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects, will see development split into four zones, with zone one situated to the west and north of the Darwin Centre being the focus of this consultation.
Proposals will include the demolition of existing retail and medical centres to create space for offices, homes, restaurants and a cinema.
Plans also include a landmark new public park, designed by landscape architects Spacehub.
“A new park alongside this could include seating overlooking the Welsh Bridge, a children’s playground, open lawns and an events space for live music or film screenings – but as we develop the design, we want to hear feedback and ideas for the park from people in Shrewsbury,” says Ben Sykes, partner at FaulknerBrowns Architects.
The first phase of public consultation will run online until 15 November.
