Plans for a film studio complex to be built atop a brownfield site in Bedfordshire have been given the go-ahead by local planners.
The complex, designed by architect Scott Brownrigg as part of the ‘Home of Production’ scheme, will be built near Stewartby at a former clay brick quarry.
Phase one plans include 11 studio buildings built between two lakes created by clay extraction bowls, and a community facility atop a 70m platform, 4m above one of the lakes.
The 1.75m sq ft studio will be encompassed by trees and shrubs, with a number of green spaces located throughout.
Urban regeneration company, McFarlane + Associates will be leading the projects’ landscaping, while RSK Wilding will be managing the environmental aspects.
Outline planning has been granted for phases two and three of the project, these include a transport hub for the local bus network and an arrival point for cyclists.
