A contractor has been appointed to support the transformation of a new ‘landmark’ public park in Sheffield city centre.

Early-stage construction provider, Keltbray will support the project that includes uncovering part of Sheffield’s mediaeval Castle.

Also included in the plans will be a new events area resembling the ‘bowling green’ believed to have occupied the site in the 17th century.

The event area is set to host a range of local events, with a max capacity of 500 people.

Cllr Ben Miskell, chair of the transport, regeneration and climate change policy committee at Sheffield City Council, comments: “Seeing this amazing project move closer to becoming a reality is incredibly exciting and will mean that we will be able to see the remains of the castle which kick started Sheffield.

“Once complete it will be an incredible public space bringing together the history of our city along with modern public spaces for the people of Sheffield and beyond to enjoy.”

Ground is expected to be broken in the opening weeks of 2024, with completion due by summer of 2025.
