A recent study has discovered that wildlife habitats, complete with real grass, planters, and wildflower meadows, are among the most desired features for homeowners envisioning their ‘dream’ garden.
In a survey of 2,001 people, almost 30% said they want to add real grass, trees, and seating areas to their outdoor spaces to create a ‘dream back garden’.
Approximately a quarter of people envision planters, wildflower meadows, storage and bird baths in their ideal back gardens.
To create a ‘dream front garden’, people would be most likely to seek out planters, hanging baskets (21%), trees (20%), and raised bedding areas (15%).
According to the research from hard landscape supplier Marshalls, the features people would least like to see in their gardens include a swimming pool, bike storage, and an outdoor gym.
Speaking about the findings, which are outlined in the Marshalls Improving the Landscape white paper, Ben Warren, managing director of Landscape Products at Marshalls, says: “Gardens play a huge role in the way we use our properties, so as those responsible for designing and installing outdoor spaces, landscapers are influential in helping homeowners realise the full potential of their outdoor space.”
He goes on to say these results could potentially see more gardens across the UK become more biodiverse, catering to many walks of wildlife.
